If your business crosses the e-Invoicing turnover threshold, every B2B invoice must be registered on the Invoice Registration Portal (IRP) to receive an IRN and signed QR code. TallyPrime can do this directly from your sales voucher — no separate portal login required.
Before you start
- An active TSS (Tally Software Services) subscription — connected GST services depend on it.
- Your GSTIN registered for e-Invoicing on the government portal.
- API user credentials created for your GSP/ERP access.
- Correct GSTIN, state and address details in every party ledger.
Configuring TallyPrime
- Open F11 (Features) → Enable Goods and Services Tax (GST) and set e-Invoicing applicable to Yes.
- Enter the applicable-from date and your e-Invoice API username.
- If e-Way Bills apply to you, enable e-Way Bill applicable and set the threshold limit.
- Check that HSN/SAC codes and GST rates are present on stock items or ledgers.
Generating e-Invoices and e-Way Bills
When you save a sales invoice, TallyPrime offers to send it for e-Invoice generation. After login, the IRN, acknowledgement number and QR code are written back to the voucher and printed on the invoice. Transport details entered in the voucher can generate the e-Way Bill in the same step.
Common errors and fixes
- Invalid GSTIN / state code — correct the party ledger and resend.
- Duplicate IRN — the invoice number was already registered; check for repeated voucher numbers.
- Authentication failed — re-check API credentials and that the API user is linked to your GSP.
GST rules and thresholds change periodically. Always confirm current notifications on the official GST portal or with your tax consultant.
