Every business has a few things TallyPrime doesn’t do quite the way they want. TDL — Tally Definition Language — is how those gaps are closed without replacing your software.

TDL in one paragraph

TDL is the development language TallyPrime itself is built with. A TDL file is loaded alongside TallyPrime and can add fields, change screens, create reports, alter invoice prints and automate actions. Because it extends rather than modifies the product, your data stays safe and TallyPrime upgrades remain possible.

Real examples from our customers

  • Custom invoice format: a textile shop added design numbers, colour and bale details to its GST invoice.
  • Approval module: a distributor required manager approval for any sales invoice below the minimum rate.
  • Barcode printing: a supermarket prints price labels from stock items and bills by scanning.
  • Jewellery module: gross/net weight, purity, wastage and making charges calculated on the invoice.
  • WhatsApp integration: invoices and outstanding statements sent to customers in one click.

What a good TDL project looks like

  1. A clear written requirement with sample documents.
  2. A fixed quote and timeline.
  3. Testing on a copy of your real data.
  4. Support after go-live and when TallyPrime is upgraded.
If your team maintains an Excel sheet “next to Tally”, that’s usually a sign a TDL customization could save time.

See the modules we build on our TDL customization page, or share your requirement and we’ll suggest the simplest solution.
