TallyPrime is designed to be driven from the keyboard. Teams that learn a handful of shortcuts finish voucher entry and reporting dramatically faster than those who reach for the mouse. Here are the shortcuts our trainers in Tiruvannamalai teach first.
Navigation shortcuts
- Alt + G (Go To) — jump to any report, voucher type or master from anywhere. This is the single most useful key in TallyPrime.
- Ctrl + G (Switch To) — switch to another report while keeping your current screen open.
- Esc — go back one screen; Ctrl + Q quits the current screen without saving.
- F3 (Company) — select or change the active company.
Voucher entry shortcuts
- F4 Contra, F5 Payment, F6 Receipt, F7 Journal — open accounting vouchers instantly.
- F8 Sales, F9 Purchase; Ctrl + F8 Credit Note and Ctrl + F9 Debit Note.
- Alt + C — create a new master (ledger or stock item) from inside a voucher without leaving it.
- Alt + 2 — duplicate the current voucher; ideal for repeat transactions.
- Ctrl + A — accept and save the screen.
Report shortcuts
- Alt + F5 — toggle between condensed and detailed views.
- F2 — change the date; Alt + F2 — change the reporting period.
- Ctrl + B (Basis of Values) and Ctrl + H (Change View) — reshape a report without building a new one.
- Alt + E export, Alt + P print and Alt + M share by email.
Tip: press Ctrl + H on almost any report to discover alternate views — many users never realise these exist.
Make shortcuts a habit
Print this list and keep it next to each billing counter for two weeks. Most staff stop needing it after that. If you want structured hands-on training for your team, our staff training sessions cover shortcuts, GST and reporting in English or Tamil.
